FIVE FACTS ABOUT B-SAD
1. The SAD (limited company) was created in 1999 by the historic multisport Belenenses club to manage its professional football operations.
2. A majority stake in the SAD was acquired by Codecity in 2012, after which relations between it and the club soured.
3. As the official relationship between the SAD and Belenenses ended in 2018, the SAD was left with the players and the top flight place, while Belenenses kept the stadium, the historic titles and the name.
4. The breakaway B-SAD competed from 2018 at the National Stadium in Oeiras, but the vast majority of fans continued to support the historic Belenenses, who were required to start from the bottom of the Portuguese football pyramid.
5. The karma was almost instant. Belenenses rose rapidly through the divisions to return to professional football, while B-SAD dropped to the very bottom of the pyramid.
FIVE FACTS ABOUT ALMADA
1. Almada is located on the opposite bank of the River Tagus from Lisbon, to which it is connected by the impressive 25 de Abril suspension bridge.
2. Those not travelling by car can take the ferry to the port of Cacilhas from Caís do Sodré.
3. The port houses Portugal’s last military sailboat, the “Dom Fernando II e Glória”, which is now a museum.
4. Most visitors, however, head for the iconic Cristo Rei statue, which overlooks the suspension bridge.
5. Football legend Luis Figo is an Almada native, as is Rafael Leão, who dribbled AC Milan to their first Serie A victory in 11 years in 2022.
