FIVE FACTS ABOUT CD TONDELA
1. Although the club was formed in 1933, it took until 1986 for it to reach the Portuguese fourth tier.
2. It would take a further 29 years to make it to the Primeira Liga in 2015.
3. As the stadium needed to be upgraded, Tondela played their first top flight season home games in Aveiro. A remarkable late run of points helped them narrowly avoid instant relegation.
4. In 2022, the Auriverdes reached the final of the Taça de Portugal for the first time, losing to Porto 3-1. Relegation to the second tier in the same season compounded the disappointment.
5. Their fans, led by a crocodile mascot, are known as “Febre Amarela” (Yellow Fever).
