FIVE FACTS ABOUT SC BRAGA
1. Braga’s original colours were green and white, but they changed to red and white post WWII at the behest of either their president, who supported Arsenal, or their coach.
2. Their stadium, which has won architectural awards, is known as “A Pedreira” (The Quarry), as one of its sides is carved out of a mountain.
3. Although Braga managed to win a Portuguese cup in the 1960s, the majority of their domestic success has come since the turn of the century.
4. Ironically, their greatest European success came against domestic opposition in the 2010/2011 Europa League, in which they defeated Benfica in the semi-final before losing to Porto in the final.
5. Their greatest rivals are Vitória, from the rival city of Guimarães. Braga was once the centre of religious power in the area, while Guimarães was the centre of secular power.

FIVE FACTS ABOUT BRAGA
1. Braga is the capital of the historic Minho region, culturally akin to neighbouring Galicia in Spain and famous for its production of caldo verde (green soup) and vinho verde (green wine).
2. It comprises the third largest urban area in Portugal after Lisbon and Porto.
3. Although Spain has its own archbishop nowadays, the archbishop of Braga was once referred to as the “Primacy of the Spains”, in charge of Catholicism across the whole peninsula.
4. It is a natural stopping point on the Portuguese pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
5. Braga’s “INL” is the main hub of nanotechnology research for both Spain and Portugal.
