FIVE FACTS ABOUT PARMA CALCIO 1913
1. The club began life as Verdi Football Club as it was founded 100 years after the local maestro’s birth.
2. All of the club’s silverware (3 Italian Cups and 3 European trophies) was won between 1991 and 2002 when they were run by dairy giant Parmalat.
3. The club was then bankrupted and forced to auction off all their trophies when the chairman was jailed for embezzling 800 million Euros, leaving the company 14 billion in debt.
4. Another bankruptcy followed in 2015, but Parma bounced back, achieving three consecutive promotions from Serie D.
5. They contest a derby named after a certain cheese with Reggiana and the Derby of Emilia with Bologna.

Parma fans still out in their numbers after financial trouble sent them down to Serie D
