FIVE FACTS ABOUT BOLOGNA FC 1909
1. Most of their success (6 league titles) came before WWII, but they did manage a final scudetto in 1964.
2. One of their most successful interwar managers, Arpad Weisz, was killed along with his entire family at Auschwitz.
3. The stadium is named after former chairman Renato Dall’Aria, who passed away just a few days before their 1964 league triumph.
4. The Renato Dall’Aria has an iconic tower, the “Torre di Maratona”, opposite the covered stand, which echoes the city’s architecture.
5. Current manager Sinisa Mihajlovic has battled a leukemia diagnosis since taking over in 2019.

FIVE FACTS ABOUT BOLOGNA
1. The University of Bologna is the oldest in the world; it was established in 1088 and is still considered Italy’s best. Famous alumni include Dante, Thomas Becket, Erasmus, Copernicus and Marconi.
2. Bologna is thought to have had around 100 towers in the 12th/13th century due to rivalry between families, although few remain standing today. The “Two Towers” (both leaning) are a symbol of the city and feature in Dante’s Inferno.
3. The city endured a steady decline and two devastating plagues as part of the Papal States from the 16th century up until Italian independence. It has been staunchly left wing since WWII.
4. Bologna boasts 38km of iconic red colonnades, so you don’t need to worry about taking an umbrella.
5. It is also the home of “Bolognese” sauce, although locals call it “ragu” and refuse to combine it with spaghetti; it should only be used with tagliatelle.
