FIVE FACTS ABOUT US SASSUOLO
1. The club has gradually moved up through the divisions, reaching Serie D in 1968, Serie C2 in 1984, Serie C1 in 2006, Serie B in 2008 and finally Serie A in 2013.
2. It was Massimiliano Allegri who took Sassuolo to Serie B early on in his coaching career before his Juventus days.
3. Sassuolo’s true home stadium is the Enzo Ricci, but due to its capacity of just 4,000, the club had to share a ground with Modena in Serie B and now does so with Reggiana in Serie A.
4. The Serie A ground in Reggio Emilia bears the name of Sassuolo’s owners, the chemical company Mapei. You may remember their successful ’90s pro cycling team.
5. Sassuolo’s biggest rivals are Carpi and, more recently, Modena. Today, they are far far ahead of both on the pitch.
