FIVE FACTS ABOUT LE HAVRE AC
1. Although Le Havre is often dubbed the oldest club in France, this is inaccurate. The sporting organisation was founded in 1872, but it was not until 1894 that football, as we know it, was played.
2. According to legend, the light and dark blue team colours were chosen by the club’s English founders, who graduated from Cambridge (light blue) and Oxford (dark blue). The club anthem is still sung to the tune of “God Save the King”.
3. Le Havre claimed three early French titles in the amateur era, two at the turn of the century and one just after World War I.
4. In more recent times, they have been represented by a host of young talent from their youth system, including Riyad Mahrez, Paul Pogba and Dimitri Payet.
5. Le Havre’s main rivalry is with Caen, against whom they contest the Normandy derby.

FIVE FACTS ABOUT LE HAVRE
1. Le Havre, meaning “the harbour”, was immodestly founded in 1517 as “Franciscopolis” by Francis I. Francis was the king who bought the Mona Lisa and met Henry VIII at the lavish “Field of the Cloth of Gold” summit.
2. Devastated during the “Battle of Normandy” in 1944, it was rebuilt by famed architect Auguste Perret.
3. Jean-Paul Sartre taught in Le Havre and based the fictional location of his novel, “Nausea”, on the city.
4. Today, the port is the second largest in France after Marseille. Following the implementation of the “Port 2000” scheme, it became the largest container port.
5. Le Havre is both the least densely populated and least polluted city in the country.
