FIVE FACTS ABOUT AC AJACCIO
1. AC Ajaccio’s original stadium was located next to a rubbish dump, causing noxious odours to occasionally waft across the pitch.
2. The club’s nickname of “The Bear” emerged during a 1919 match against British naval officers. The physically imposing Martin Baretti, the islanders’ only goalscorer that day, was thus christened, and his nickname subsequently morphed into the club’s.
3. AC Ajaccio became the first Corsican side to reach Ligue 1 in 1967, but disappeared into obscurity just a few years later due to financial mismanagement.
4. Under new owners, ACA climbed an incredible five divisions to Ligue 2 between 1993 and 1998.
5. AC Ajaccio have a history of clashes with the island’s other big boys: Bastia and Gazelec Ajaccio.

FIVE FACTS ABOUT AJACCIO
