1. In the club’s early years, female fans could attend for free.
2. They won promotion to the third division in the same year as the Beatles released “Yellow Submarine”. Fans changed the Spanish version’s lyrics to “Amarillo es el Villarreal, amarillo es, amarillo es” (Villarreal is yellow, it’s yellow, it’s yellow) and the nickname was born.
3. Villarreal established themselves as a European force after gaining promotion to the top tier for the first time in 1998, reaching the Champions League semi-finals once and claiming the Europa League title in 2020/2021.
4. Historically known as “El Madrigal”, the stadium name was changed to “La Ceramica” in 2017 to promote local businesses producing ceramics such as “Pamesa”, their shirt sponsor.
5. Villarreal’s main rivals historically are CD Castellon, but their now frequent match-ups with Valencia CF have become known as the “Derbi de la Comunitat”.

1. Villarreal means “Royal Village”; the name was given to it by its founder, James I (The Conqueror) of Aragon, in 1274.
2. It was created for its strategic importance lying just north of Valencia on the old Roman Via Augusta.

4. Profits from the orange industry led to the construction of the ceramics factories for which the area is now well-known.
