FIVE FACTS ABOUT FC HEIDENHEIM
1. Although FCH date their founding to 1846, they are not the oldest football club in the world. It was purely a gymnastics club back then.
2. They actually began playing football in 1910. After many mergers and splits they finally reached their current status in 2007 after breaking away from Heidenheimer SB.
3. 2007 was also the year when local lad Frank Schmidt hung up his boots after spending his final four playing years at the club. He has been manager ever since, leading them from the fifth tier to the top flight.
4. Striker Tim Kleindienst has been of no small service to Schmidt over the last few years of the club’s rise, scoring the most goals in the second division in their 22/23 promotion season.
5. The stadium is the highest in German professional football at 555 metres above sea level.

FIVE FACTS ABOUT HEIDENHEIM
1. Heidenheim is a small town of just 50,000 residents, many of whom are employed by Voith, an international producer of turbines and machinery.
2. In Roman times, it was the largest settlement in the area due to the presence of the castle of Aquileia.
3. The current main fortification is Hellenstein Castle, which dominates the town. It was built in the 12th century and presently hosts a “Carriage and Chaise” museum.
4. Heidenheim’s cultural calendar includes a “shepherd run”, a highly prestigious fencing competition and an opera festival.
5. Erwin Rommel, the “Desert Fox”, was born and bred in Heidenheim.
