1. Although the original club was founded as a multi-sports organisation way back in 1848, it didn’t take on its current status until 1949.
2. Bochum achieved its first promotion to the top flight in 1971 and remained there for the next 22 years.
3. Fans started calling them the “Unrelegatables” in the 1992/1993 season after a number of close shaves. Naturally, they immediately went down.
4. Another nickname they accrued was the “Grey Mouse”, due to their minnow status. They embraced the moniker by making a blue mouse their mascot.
5. Bochum fans share a rare friendship with Bayern fans.

1. Bochum derives from the words for “beech” and “home”, as it was established around beech trees.

4. The best-selling artist in German music history, Herbert Grönemeyer, is from here. He also starred in the cult “Das Boot” movie.
