FIVE FACTS ABOUT WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS
1. Wolves were one of the founder members of the top flight, finishing third in the inaugural season.
2. They attracted notoriety just before WWII when their manager (legally) injected monkey glands into his players in an attempt to improve their performance.
3. All 3 of Wolves’ league titles came in the 1950s when they were captained by club legend Billy Wright, who spent his entire career here. They even defeated the great Real Madrid side of the period.
4. In recent years, the club has had a strong connection with Portugal, with both managers and many players hailing from the Iberian nation.
5. Their biggest rivals are West Brom, against whom they contest the “Black County” derby. Other regional rivalries include those with Birmingham, Aston Villa and, to a lesser extent, Walsall.

FIVE FACTS ABOUT WOLVERHAMPTON
1. The city’s name has no connection with wolves; it is named after Lady Wulfrun, an Anglo-Saxon noblewoman of the 10th century, who was kidnapped by Vikings.
2. In the 14th and 15th century, it was an important centre of wool trading. Metal industries, particularly those focused on the production of locks and keys developed in the 16th century.
3. Wolverhampton was a centre for bicycle manufacture up until 1975, with as many as 200 different companies operating here at one point.
4. It was also the home of Sunbeam, who produced successful early Grand Prix cars and the first automobile in history to pass 200 miles an hour.
5. Musical acts Slade, Cornershop and Goldie are all from Wolverhampton.
