FIVE FACTS ABOUT WEST HAM UNITED
1. West Ham began life as Thames Ironworks. This is the reason behind the club’s nicknames of “the Irons” and “the Hammers”.
2. The castle that once featured behind the hammers on the badge was the “Boleyn Tower”, named after Anne Boleyn. The club played at the “Boleyn Ground” until their 2016 move to the London Stadium.
3. The Hammers’ finest moment was their European Cup Winners Cup triumph in 1965. Three of their players (Bobby Moore, Martin Peters and Geoff Hurst) would go on to lift the World Cup the following year.
4. Bubbles are released into the stadium when the club song “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles” is played.
5. West Ham and nearby Millwall have one of the most violent rivalries in football. Fortunately, they have rarely played each other recently due to their being in different divisions.

FIVE FACTS ABOUT WEST HAM
1. West Ham is actually located in East London. East Ham also exists and together they form the London borough of Newham.
2. Many factories were built here after an 1844 act banned dangerous industries from operating within the capital. At the time, West Ham lay just outside city limits.
3. The area was heavily bombed in WWII; well over 1000 people lost their lives in the raids.
4. The Royal Docks lie across both East and West Ham on the Thames and contain the capital’s most central airport, the London City Airport.
5. Famous locals include antiseptic pioneer Joseph Lister, boxer Lennox Lewis, musician David Essex and “Mr. West Ham” himself, Mark Noble, who has the most appearances in club history.
