FIVE FACTS ABOUT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
1. The curious name of the club comes from Harry Hotspur, a 14th century knight who features in Shakespeare’s Henry IV. His descendants owned land in the area where the club developed.
2. Spurs were the first and only non-league club to win the FA Cup, doing so in 1901.
3. In 1961 under Bill Nicholson, they became the first English club to win the league and cup double. Tottenham were also the winners of the inaugural UEFA Cup in 1972, defeating Wolves in the final.
4. Spurs’ record scorer Jimmy Greaves, who tragically missed the 1966 World Cup final through injury, is the highest scorer in the history of the English top flight.
5. Their bitter rivals are Arsenal, whose old stadium (Highbury) was located at the other end of London’s Seven Sisters Road. The two contest the North London derby.

FIVE FACTS ABOUT TOTTENHAM
1. “Tottenham” is believed to derive from “Tota’s Hamlet”. Tota was a farmer at the time the Domesday Book was put together, and the hamlet lay on the Roman road from London to the North, Ermine Street.
2. It was a popular spot for the wealthy of the capital to visit from the times of Henry VIII until the end of the 19th century, when much of the the area was converted into housing for the working class.
3. The “Tottenham Outrage” of 1909 involved two robbers being chased for two hours through marshes before they hijacked a tram. Both criminals lost their lives, as did a policeman and a young boy.
4. The 2011 London riots broke out here following Mark Duggan’s death at the hands of the police.
5. Tottenham Cake is a sponge with pink icing that should not be confused with Tottenham Pudding, a mix of household waste fed to pigs following WWII.
