FIVE FACTS ABOUT NOTTINGHAM FOREST
1. The club was formed at a pub by a group of shinty players in 1865.
2. Forest chose to wear “Garibaldi red” caps, inspired by the Italian revolutionary. They would later provide Arsenal with their first kit, which has remained the same colour to this day.
3. The greatest period of their history came under Brian Clough, who managed them to seven major trophies from 1975 to 1993, including back-to-back European Cups in 1979 and 1980.
4. They battle for the Brian Clough trophy with their fiercest rivals Derby County, a club that Clough also managed with great success.
5. In addition, Forest contest the oldest derby in football with the oldest club in football, Notts County, whose stadium lies just across the River Trent.

FIVE FACTS ABOUT NOTTINGHAM
1. Nottingham was once known as “Snotingaham”, meaning “Snot’s people’s homestead”. Snot was a Saxon chieftain with an unfortunate name.
2. The city and nearby Sherwood Forest are synonymous with the legend of Robin Hood. Most tellings of the tale culminate in a battle at Nottingham Castle.
3. More recently, many historic buildings were demolished to create Maid Marian’s Way. It didn’t quite live up to its name, however, and was dubbed the “ugliest street in Europe”.
4. Nottingham has strong connections to the world of literature. DH Lawrence was born here, while Lord Byron died here.
5. The city has produced musical acts such as Tindersticks, Sleaford Mods and London Grammar.
