FIVE FACTS ABOUT ATALANTA BC
1. The club was founded by Swiss students attending the local Paolo Sarpi high school, known for its academic excellence.
2. They named the club after the brave and fleet of foot Greek heroine, who ended up being turned into a lion. She was not, however, a goddess, as the nickname of “La Dea” implies.
3. Another nickname they have acquired is that of the “terrible provincial team”, as they are by far the most successful side in Serie A history not from a major city.
4. Their best three seasons in Serie A were 3rd place finishes from 2019 to 2021 under Gian Piero Gasperini.
5. Their greatest rivals are nearby Brescia.

FIVE FACTS ABOUT BERGAMO
1. Its first inhabitants were the Celtic Cenomani tribe.
2. Bergamo is divided into the Citta Alta (Upper City), which contains UNESCO Venetian fortifications, and the more modern Citta Bassa (Lower City).
3. It is known as the Citta dei Mille, as many locals joined Garibaldi on his “Expedition of the Thousand” to defeat the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, a key victory in securing Italian unification.
4. Enrico Rastelli, one of the greatest exponents of the art of juggling, was a resident of Bergamo.
5. It was the hardest hit city in Europe during the first wave of Covid-19; its hospitals were completely overwhelmed and bodies of the dead had to be transported by military vehicles.
