1. Employees of the “Casino” grocery store chain, which was established in Saint-Étienne, created the club. The green colour of the stores was adopted by “Les Verts”.
2. The Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, named after the Casino group’s founder, is known as both “The Cauldron” and “Green Hell” by French football supporters.
3. Saint-Étienne’s once record ten league titles were won over a 25 year period between 1956 and 1981.
4. Their current goalkeeper is the aptly named Étienne Green, a remarkable coincidence of nomenclature.

3. Opera composer Jules Massenet was a native of Saint-Étienne. His work was celebrated with a biannual festival in the city until 2012.
